Stone Meadows
The Local And Neighbourhood Plan
HOW DID STONE MEADOWS FIRST COME UNDER THREAT OF DEVELOPMENT?
Upper Stone Meadow was targeted as a possible site to be downgraded from Green belt and AONB with a view to build houses and/or offices by Chiltern District Council.

Save St. Giles was formed in March of this year with the sole intention of raising awareness about the Local Plan and drawing attention to the fact that Upper Stone Meadow had been targeted as land that was suited to downgrade from Green Belt for possible development of housing or offices.
The overwhelming view of the village was that Upper Stone Meadow, set not only in the Green Belt but in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Misbourne River flowing through it, was not suited to downgrade and development under any circumstance. A day before the deadline that the Local Plan forms were due to be submitted, it was announced that Upper Stone Meadow had passed the first level of assessment for downgrade and had been advanced to level two.
The village has had a long wait throughout the summer for news but finally we can report that the areas that are considered suitable for downgrade in our county do not feature any land within the boundaries of Chalfont St Giles, including Upper Stone Meadow.
We cannot prove that the response of our community was the sole factor in helping protect Upper Stone Meadow from downgrading and development but it has not gone without notice that of the 5,000 local plan responses submitted from the whole of our county, 1,500 were from Chalfont St Giles.
On behalf of all at Save St. Giles we would like to thank you for your support.
